I just found a few of their vids in Youtube and they had a kickass guitarist called Harry K. Anybody remember him? There's some smoking guitarplaying in their songs! Did anyone happen to see them live? Hey Jaakko, Harry Cody kicked ass on the Shotgun Messiah stuff!!
Have you got their album Second Coming? If not you NEED that cd, there is some incredible playing and tone on that album!
One of my fav's for sure. Dan No, I don't have it, Dan. I actually found about them today when I was watching some Blue Murder vids. I saw some links to Leatherwolf vids and from their vids I found couple of links to Shotgun Messiah vids. Very very good guitarplaying by Harry Cody indeed! He had great tone too, especially on the second disc with the Folkesson Marshalls!!! Great player for sure.
Though possessing of undeniable talent, the members of Shotgun Messiah were often accused of being rather shameless opportunists (sometimes mockingly dubbed 'Bandwagon Messiah') due to their continuous.
Didn't know that Tommy had modded amps back in the 80s already. Tommy Folkesson is my Mod Guru Idol beside Mark Cameron. He was modding amps for years and only a few guys had his mods back in the day. I am pissed that Tommy would not ship me one of his amps tho I heard about his mods in early 2000 when I lived in Sweden; my music teacher was talking about his favorite amps and he mentioned Folkesson modded Marshalls. I was like 'modded by who?!?!'

I am pissed that Tommy would not ship me one of his amps tho I've been interested in these for a while Ralph, have you heard one in person? I put a google in for him and found a thread on PlexiPalace (I think) where quite a few people called him a 'butcher'! Not much positive stuff, but I guess that could be 'cause any modded Marshall is blasphemy to them! I've been interested in these for a while Ralph, have you heard one in person? Not much positive stuff, but I guess that could be 'cause any modded Marshall is blasphemy to them! All the guys on the plexi site are Marshall purists and when they see all the knobs Tommy puts into his amps, it gets there panties up in a bunch. The Fact of the matter is that if anyone of those guys actually heard his mods they would probably love the tone. I have never got to play a Folkesson in person but I have heard some killer clips on albums, Giigs and I have heard some killer clips from guys who own them.
The clips have been consistently amazing IMHO. The secret to his mods is that he builds an amp into an amp almost like slaving a head. What that means is that he modifies the preamp so that one of the preamp tubes acts like a mini slave. You crank the hell out of your amp and the amp is being held down and then re-amped through another section of the amp. What this essemtially does is it allows power tube distortion to be had at any volume. He is one clever bastard and Im always wondering why he never came out with his own amp and he still chooses to mod other amps.
Second Coming is an awesome disc with perhaps the best Sex/Drugs/RockandRoll song ever - the intro riff just knocks you over. Kolbe's tone was searing, almost like it was about to blow up. I had met him in L.A. Several times before that CD came out. Had I run into him after I would have pestered him about those amps.
Is Folkesson the same guy that modded Ronnie Le Tekro's? A different, but fantastic sound with a somewhat unique mid hump. The blowing up type sound is inherent in the mod!! Great analogy! That said, Ronni Le Tekro's amp was not modified by Folkesson. It was done by another guy who has since fell off the radar.
